TRANQUILITY THERAPY AND COUNSELLING
How long are sessions?
Most individual sessions are 50 minutes in length. Sessions may go longer for family or couples counselling. Shorter and longer time lengths may be arranged.
How often will I attend sessions and for how long?
Every client is different, however most clients tend to start by attending sessions weekly or bi-weekly, in order to build a relationship with their therapist and begin on their treatment plan. After a few weeks, sessions may become less frequent, depending on the treatment plan and progress of the client. Unfortunately we are unable to predict the number of sessions because everyone is unique and everyone's situation is different. Together we will work on designing a treatment plan which fits your needs and your schedule. Some therapies are designed to be short-term (6-12 sessions) while others tend to be long term (12 or more sessions). Short-term therapy treatment plans tend to focus on practical problems, while long-term therapy deals with the deeper concerns of the client.
What do I do if I need to cancel or change my appointment?
Please call us to change or cancel your appointment. We ask for a full business day notice for appointment changes or cancellations (i.e. Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm). If we receive less than a full business day notice, you will be charged the full fee for the missed appointment.
Do you have weekend or evening appointments?
In order to help accommodate all clients and their schedules, sessions can be scheduled on weekends and evenings. Time-slots are limited, so please contact us for availability.
How is my information kept private and confidential?
All communication between a therapist and the client is confidential. No information can be shared or disclosed without written consent of the client except under the following circumstances.
If a counsellor believes that you or another person is at clear risk of imminent harm
If a child is or may be at risk of abuse or neglect, or in need of protection
For the purpose of complying with a legal order such as a subpoena, or if the disclosure is otherwise required or authorized by law.
What are the fees and how can I pay?
Please see the service tabs for session rates. You can pay by cash, cheque, or e-transfer at the end of each session, and we will provide an official receipt. At this time, we currently do not accept VISA or debit. We do offer therapy on a sliding scale for students and those with a limited income. These are determined on a case to case basis. The fee for written reports and letters is charged according to the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors fee guide.
Does my insurance cover therapy?
The receipt which will be given to you after payment may be submitted to some insurance companies for reimbursement or used for income tax purposes. I recommend that you contact your insurance company provider to verify coverage details.
